NOTE: A simple glance should tell you that this book is hilarious. For Jesse Stiles, the same glance should register even more hilarity. I will let him explain why; in fact, he has “dibs” on this book. If anyone else bids on it, I expect a thorough explanation. Forgive me, but hey I am selling my whole library here, and so there are bound to be a few ridiculous “private joke”-ish items, and this is one of them. You had to be there really. Erm. Unedited copy from the front cover flap:

The Rap Factor turns up the volume on the literary adventures of Delacorta, the author of the stylish mystery novel Diva, which was made into the immensely popular film of the same name. Heading south to the sultry air of Miami, he has written a fast-paced, sexy, hipper than hop thriller that has the rhythms of Ice-T and the visuals of “Miami Vice.” But don’t even think about Don Johnson — Zulu, the novel’s protagonist, is badder than Shaft and gets more women into bed than James Bond (and with far fewer gadgets). A “cultural megamix” with a Ph.D from Yale and something hotter than a pistol in his pants, he is Miami’s most renowned P.I. and bon vivant. When a beautiful young rapper poised for the top of the charts is found dead in her apartment, not a mark on her perfect ebony body, Zulu is off and jamming, his two sidekicks, Lita (“a pure ghetto flower”) and Roy (a B-boy, homeboy), trailing in his amplified wake. What ensues is fully worthy of the writer who has been praised by Vanity Fair for his “cool, stylish puzzlers” and by the Los Angeles Times as one capable of “four-star pop entertainment.” The Rap Factor is fun, sexy, and slick — a novel you can almost dance to.

According to Amazon, this book retails for $18.00— $10 more than what I’m asking — and ranks a sort of Sisyphean 4,470,606 in sales. The primary text of The Rap Factor is credited to Delacorta; Atlantic Monthly Pr put this particular 200-page hardcover edition out on July 1, 1993, with Dewey Decimal number 843.914. The ISBN is 9780871135292.
