NOTE: I was so into this book’s title before I got it. Isn’t the title awesome? On so many levels — for one, I’m a graphic artist and I have design problems. The tone sounds like Josef is a brave young pioneering Darwinist who will, as we watch in an instructional 16mm film, proceed to dissect one of these graphic artists so that we might find out how misevolved they really are. I kid of course, but really this was Mr. Müller-Brockmann’s big textbook, in which he gathered all of his recognizably famous work and managed to arrange it into a pedagogical path that is not only illuminating but also shockingly non-masturbatory, considering the setup. Sadly, his successors in design education typically ape the formula without the punch — as far as I know most graduate-school design educators really do think that making a dozen 27-year-olds sit through disorganized slideshows of their half-assed mossy accomplishments is like the same deal. I can personally attest to the fact that it is not the same deal, and I will be paying Sallie Mae for the privilege of saying so for the rest of my natural born life, which is why I hope you’ll buy the book. It’s in tip-top condition by the way, srsly.

According to Amazon, this book retails for $105.00— $41 more than what I’m asking — and ranks an understandable 567,869 in sales. The primary text of The Graphic Artist And His Design Problems is credited to J. Muller-Brockmann; Ram Publications put this particular 212-page hardcover edition out on Sept. 1, 2003, with Dewey Decimal number 745.0. The ISBN is 3721204662.
