NOTE: Lawrence Wiener is a ham-n-egga kind of concept-artist. I grudgingly like him, but I do like him — it’s the kind of work that looks really precocious and unconsidered until you realize how doggedly relentless he is in his considerations and approach. This book is a nice reminder because it weighs a fucking ton. Seriously, if you buy this thing, I hope you either live in Red Hook so you can walk over for it, or that you’re rich enough to fly me first-class to your house so I don’t have to deal with making you pay whatever the outrageous postage will be on the thing. Really tho I’ll sell it to you for whatever, but I do hope for either of those things. If you’re rich and you live in Red Hook, that’s cool too, maybe you could just fly me and the book somewhere. Also I’d like a pony. As an aside, you know what else is amazing? Lawrence Weiner’s name is not funny. I mean, Lawrence is pretty funny on its own, and Weiner is so risible it’s sort of unsportsmanlike to mock it. But there is something about how the combined grade-school-wedgie-baiting force of both of those names cancel each other out. Like how you combine face-meltingly corrosive hydrochloric acid with explosive, caustic sodium metal to get table salt, which you can then put on your fries. And so there you have it. Lawrence Weiner: good on fries.
According to Amazon, this book retails for $60.00— $29 more than what I’m asking — and ranks an understandable 551,389 in sales.
