NOTE: Look: I confess. I bought this book at Spoonbill because I had overheard some girls talking about Ana Mendieta at a party I was at the week before, and because it looked nice and had excellent photography, in that order. Yes. I am a petty, shallow excuse for a human being. To my credit I have at least learned a thing or two about Ms. Mendieta since, with the number-one thing (on this list of things) is that it is nigh-impossible to talk about her work without talking about her death. That is not so bad, actually — apart from the overwhelming fact that she’s, like, dead, most everyone I talk to about the subject ends up shamefacingly admitting that at least it was stylistically consistent. So anyway I’m glad I bought this book, even considering my reprehensible motives, because it did lead to quite a whallop of good conversation over the ten years or so I’ve had it*. Now’s your chance! You can be a certifiably better person than me if you buy this book now, as you’ll know for a fact that you’re not doing it for reasons as cheesedicky as mine — a fact which you can gloat over later with your friends. Can you buy self-righteousness at Spoonbill? Fuck no. * which really you can’t tell at all; it was one of those things where I was so sure I would trash the over that I treated it with the most tender micromanagement I could muster, so I ended up not doing that thing I was sure I’d do as the result. Looks new.

According to Amazon, this book retails for $50.00— $13 more than what I’m asking — and ranks a sort of Sisyphean 2,903,891 in sales. The primary text of Ana Mendieta is credited to Raquelin Mendieta, Mary Sabbatino, Donald Kuspit, Gloria Moure, and Ana Mendieta; Poligrafa put this particular 276-page hardcover edition out on Jan. 1, 1998, with Dewey Decimal number 709.0. The ISBN is 9788434308213.
