NOTE: I haven’t read this yet, but it looks and feels awesome. The fact that it’s been subdivided into three books makes a lot of sense — I infuriated a lot of my friends by giving them all Infinite Jest one year for the holidays, and one of them had the urge to slash it into smaller subvolumes, to make it less unwieldy. In the case of 2666, the estate of Sr. BolaƱo has teamed up with FSG to spare you the indignity of such violent bookwork. Each of the three volumes will fit comfortably in your handbag, if you’re into handbags.
According to Amazon, this book retails for $30.00— $8 more than what I’m asking — and ranks an understandable 257,756 in sales. The primary text of 2666 (Boxed Set Edition) is credited to Roberto Bolaño; Farrar, Straus and Giroux put this particular 912-page paperback edition out on Nov. 11, 2008, with Dewey Decimal number 863.64. The ISBN is 0374531552.
